Event takeaways: BOM BioVenture Builder workshop

How much capital does a therapeutics venture need to become ready for its next investor?

As part of the BOM (Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij) BioVenture Builder programme, hosted at Pivot Park, Judith Smit and Siebe Warnars delivered a hands-on financial modelling workshop in October for Maeve Therapeutics, iProtics and RemiRetx.

For a therapeutics startup, financial modelling is about understanding what it takes to reach the next milestone that creates value for investors, and making informed financial decisions to get there. That goes well beyond calculating runway.

Turning development plans into financial insights

During the workshop, Judith and Siebe explored how financial modelling connects development plans to financial decisions. By working through the relationship between the P&L, balance sheet and cash flow, participants gained insight into how development timelines, costs and capital requirements influence their funding needs.

They also explored the investor’s perspective: how do those capital requirements, development time and risks, and potential licensing or acquisition outcomes translate into an attractive return?

The key takeaway: a good financial model won’t predict the future precisely. It will help founders make timely decisions, and it shows investors that they understand what it takes to reach the next value-creating milestone.

Thank you, Britta Driessen, and BOM for hosting and thank you to all participants for the sharp questions and discussions!

See you next time!
